Abstract
This issue of Communications will help prepare us for the next giant step in the sensory evolution of human-computer interaction, where digital manipulation of full-motion video can also become a standard capability of workstations and personal computers. The focus of the eight articles in this special issues is thus on some of the exciting developments in computer science that make possible the storage and real-time interactive use of digitally encoded video.
