Abstract
With hundreds of channels available on todays Digital TV (DTV) services, users are finding it increasingly difficult to locate programme information. The static electronic programme guide (EPG) is only a partial solution since most users are unwilling to browse through hundreds of screens of listings content in the pursuit of their favourite show. The personalized EPG that automatically adapts to the needs of the individual holds more promise. In this paper we focus on a unique operator-independent personalized EPG solution that serves as an innovative alternative to the on-screen EPG and that requires no changes or upgrades to existing DTV infrastructure. In doing so we also introduce an alternative architectural paradigm for the delivery of a range of DTV services.
